Causes of Sexual Dysfunction
Sexual Dysfunction refers to any condition that inhibits someone’s ability to engage in and enjoy sex.
Sexual Dysfunction is a Symptom
Sexual dysfunctions cover a wide variety of problems, including erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature or delayed ejaculation in men and problems with sexual desire (libido) and response. Men over age 65 are at higher risk for ED, although ED is not a normal part of aging. The cause may be psychological, physical, or a combination of both.
Common Sexual Dysfunctions
• Hypoactive desire disorder (low sex drive)
• Hyperactive sexual disorder (high sex drive)
• Sexual aversion disorder
• Lack of lubrication (females)
• Impotence (male erectile disorder)
• Premature ejaculation (men)
• Vaginismus (prolonged contractions of the vaginal wall/ painful intercourse)
or failure to orgasm during sex

• Bi-polar disorder
• Schizophrenia
• Epilepsy
• Depression
• States of extreme fear
• Paranoia
• Anxiety
